CONVIS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Southern Michigan authorities say a tree toppled onto a passing minivan, killing a 46-year-old woman and her 11-year-old daughter.
The accident happened about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday in Calhoun County's Convis Township, about 10 miles east of Battle Creek. It wasn't immediately clear what caused the tree to fall. The National Weather Service says skies were overcast and winds were about 8-12 mph the time.
High winds accompanied storms that crossed the area one day earlier.
Authorities tell the Jackson Citizen-Patriot that the woman's 13-year-old daughter was flown to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo and was in serious condition.
The names of the victims weren't immediately known, but authorities say they were from Davison, east of Flint.
