The board governing an Eaton County township has voted to remove its elected clerk and has named a replacement to serve until the November 2014 election.
The Windsor Township board voted 5-1 Thursday to declare the clerk's job vacant. Township Clerk Linda Keefe cast the only vote against the move. The township is about 5 miles southwest of Lansing.
Ex-clerk Linda Towsley will serve as clerk until a replacement's election in 2014.
Keefe was elected last November, and officials say she's continually failed to fulfill her duties, including missing tax deadlines and failing to take a course so she could run the March election.
In June, the township board voted to petition Gov. Rick Snyder to remove her.
She declined comment after the hearing.
