Michigan tourism groups and businesses are demanding state lawmakers agree to funding for the state's Pure Michigan winter tourism advertising campaign.

Funding was cut due to state budget issues.

Supporters say a lack of funding for the winter will mean thousands of people will be out of a job during the colder months.

They also say no funding for the winter threatens the state's spring and summer tourism seasons.

I'm sure they would like nothing better than to have taxpayers fund their advertising campaign. Wouldn't every group and business? Instead, may I suggest that these groups and businesses get together to form an association, just like many other types of businesses, where they pool their money, in the form of dues, which is collectively spent on things the group deems important -- such as advertising campaigns.
