Dictionary.com defines the term renovate as to "make new or as if new again."

Some tenants at the Foxfire apartment complex in Jackson tell us their renovations have had the opposite effect.

The complex is Section 8 housing and received federal tax dollars recently for the remodeling project but the mess left behind has some neighbors arguing it wasn't money very well spent.

"Why would you pay people millions of dollars to destroy your property." asked one puzzled resident."

Another questioned: "why bother, what are we paying for?"

The shoddy work and careless repairs leaves more questions than answers for tenant Sheebon Baker.

"They wanted to bring up the property value by restoring all the property," she said. "But they did such a rushed job that instead of restoring they brought down the property value."

One man we talked to who didn't want his face shown on camera said he couldn't believe the way workers left his apartment.

"When I came home I was beyond disgusted with what I saw," he said. "I could not believe it."

He said in his normally spotless apartment he instead found dirty floors, wires left hanging out of the wall, and a door handle on his closet which fell off the first time he tried to open it.

"There was paint over baseboards, buckled drywall, chips out of the wall and nails and screws I found on the floor," he added.

And those living there weren't just upset with the job done inside their apartments, there was also plenty outside they said was not only an eyesore but a safety hazard.

Tenants voiced concerns over kids playing with leftover trash and debris from the construction which included broken shards of glass and leftover building materials.

Calls were made to the complex's leasing office but News 10 was told the manager would be out until Wednesday.

Calls were also made to Lockwood Management, the company which owns the complex but those calls were not returned.
