Teens To Plead Guilty, Others To Cooperate In Arson

Two of the four teens charged in an arson in Jackson County are expected to plead guilty to the crime.

19-year-old Jeffrey Koziol, Jr. and 18-year-old Tyler Wirebaugh waived their right to a preliminary examination in 12th District Court Wednesday morning. They are expected to plead guilty to the arson charges they face in connection with the March 26 fire at the old Sparton Electronics facility on Ganson Street in Blackman Township. Prosecutors say Koziol and Wirebaugh were the ones who actually started the fire.

Charges against the other two teens--- 17-year-old Shawn Levan and 18-year-old Cody Caldwell-- are expected to be dismissed once Koziol and Wirebaugh plead guilty. Assistant Prosecutor Mark Blumer says Levan and Caldwell were quick to cooperate with investigators. He says they provided "moral encouragement" during the fire, but didn't actually start it.

We'll have much more on today's developments tonight on News 10 at 6.
