Police in the Detroit suburb of Warren say a homeowner fatally shot a knife-wielding teenage boy who broke into his home.
Police Lt. Michael Torey say the boy entered the home about 10 a.m. Monday. Torey tells The Detroit News that the commotion woke the homeowner, who grabbed a shotgun and confronted the knife-holding teen.
Torey says the homeowner fired one shot, which struck the teen in the leg. The lieutenant says the youth jumped out the window and collapsed in the back yard.
Torey says the teen died at a hospital.
WDIV-TV reports the homeowner is 31 and the teen was 17. It says medical marijuana was being grown at the home.
The lieutenant says so far, it appears the shooting was justifiable. The teen's name was immediately released.
