Suspected Dog Fighter Going To Trial

The local man charged with two counts of dog fighting will face a jury.

Bernardino Gomez of Holt waived his right to a preliminary exam earlier this week--- meaning his case will go straight to trial. Gomez was arrested and arraigned on dog fighting charges in January, after nearly three years on the run.

Nearly thirty pit bulls were seized from his home on Grovenburg Road in April 2008. The dogs were found chained and confined in crates in the home's basement--- showing signs of abuse, neglect and hostility. Police also found dog-fighting literature. All but six of the dogs had to be put down.

If Gomez is convicted on those charges, he faces up to 8 years in prison.

Instead of constantly wasting tax payers money putting these idiots in jail, where they get television, a warm place to sleep and meals. I say put this bozo in a cage for awhile with very little food and water. Give him a taste of his own medicine

Wow. Seriously 8yrs. He should get alot longer than that. Think about what those poor dogs had to go through. As they were thrown into a fight with another dog. Think about the first time they had to fight, how scared they must have felt. Dogs to have feelings. He is a sicko and needs psychotherapy. Whoever can sit there and watch a dog tearing another dog apart and not feel remorse is morally bankrupt.

I hope he goes to prison for as long as the law will keep him there. Bet he treats vulnerable people pretty poorly, too.
