The suspect in an attempted murder-suicide in Stockbridge has died.

Sparrow Hospital confirmed Friday that 61-year-old James Robert Curry died.

Curry is accused of shooting his wife, Peggy, and turning the gun on himself at their home in Stockbridge. The Ingham County Sheriff's Office had been investigating when exactly the shooting occurred, but believed it had happened sometime prior to Monday, when police were called to the home.

Deputies responded to the home on Main St. in Stockbridge on Monday after Peggy Curry, 57, did not report to work at the Dept. of Human Services.

Ingham County Sheriff Gene Wriggelsworth had told News 10 officers discovered a "chaotic" scene. Wriggelsworth says Peggy Curry suffered a gunshot wound to the head and that James Curry had been shot under the chin, which he called typical for a murder-suicide.

Curry had been in critical condition at Sparrow Hospital.

The Currys were married for four years. Neighbors told News 10 they were a caring couple but that James Curry's personality had changed over the past year.

Detectives say James Curry was a Vietnam veteran who may have suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
