FLINT, Mich. (AP) -- Democratic congressional candidate Dan Kildee is getting some campaign help from Washington.
U.S. House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland is scheduled to headline a Kildee campaign event Saturday evening at UAW Regional 1-C offices in Flint. The suggested contribution is $25.
Kildee is running to fill the 5th District congressional seat now held by his uncle, Democratic Rep. Dale Kildee of Flint, who's retiring. The district as redrawn for 2012 includes all or parts of Genesee, Tuscola, Saginaw and Bay counties.
Dan Kildee lives in Genesee County's Flint Township and is the only Democrat in the race. Republicans running for the seat are Jim Slezak of Genesee County's Davison Township and Tom Wassa of Bay City.
Slezak is a former Democratic state representative who switched parties last fall.
