Snyder Inaugural Plans

Governor-Elect Rick Snyder has announced the plans for his inauguration January 1st. The public is invited to the ceremony outside on the Lawn of the Capitol in Lansing. Following the ceremony, Snyder will greet people in a receiving line. In the evening he will attend an inaugural celebration at the Wharton Center.

LANSING, MI - All Michigan residents are invited to attend as Governor-elect Rick Snyder takes the oath of office at noon on Jan. 1, 2011 from the east portico of the state Capitol building.
When he is sworn in, Governor-elect Snyder will become Michigan's 48th governor and take over at a time when Michigan is facing historic challenges, challenges he has pledged to overcome by ushering in a new era of innovation.
"Each one of us has a role in the reinvention of Michigan," Governor-elect Snyder said. "We've spent too much time in this state being down on ourselves. It's time to get excited again. It's time to recapture the spirit of innovation that made our state great."
The inauguration ceremony takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Lansing. The inauguration ceremony is open to the public and free to attend; it is not necessary to register in advance. Those planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early and assemble on the east lawn of the Capitol. Free parking will be available at multiple locations surrounding the Capitol.
Lt. Governor-elect Brian Calley, Attorney General-elect Bill Schuette and Secretary of State-elect Ruth Johnson will be sworn in at the ceremony as well.
Following the swearing in, Governor Snyder will then greet residents in a receiving line from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. In the evening, the governor will attend the inaugural celebration at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts on Michigan State University's campus in East Lansing.
Tickets for the inaugural celebration may be purchased online at . The inaugural celebration will be paid for through private donations and ticket sales; no taxpayer money will be used.
