Gov. Rick Snyder says he wants Lt. Gov. Brian Calley to be his running mate as he seeks re-election.
Snyder tells The Associated Press that Calley is the "best lieutenant governor in the country." He says no one should doubt his faith in Calley.
Michigan Republicans will officially nominate a candidate for lieutenant governor at their convention in August. Calley attended Snyder's re-election kickoff in February and has been widely expected to run with the governor again this year.
Snyder's Democratic challenger is former U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer. He named Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown as his running mate Thursday.
Calley was a banker and state lawmaker from Ionia County before winning election with Snyder in 2010.
