Gov. Rick Snyder has named Macomb County Judge David Viviano to Michigan Supreme Court.
He replaces Democrat Diane Hathaway, who quit the Supreme Court in scandal last month.
Hathaway pleaded guilty to fraud in a scheme to mislead a bank in the short sale of her home in Grosse Pointe Park.
Hathaway left the court on Jan. 21, but her departure was publicly known much earlier in January.
