JACKSON CO. - Sheriff's deputies were sent to Western High School in Parma this morning as a precaution, while authorities searched for a teenage runaway with a gun. A press release from the Jackson County Sheriff's office states "there were never any specific threats conveyed against staff or students."

The Sheriff's Office had been notified that a 14-year-old girl had run away from her home in the city of Jackson, and it was believed she had taken a loaded handgun from the home. A search was conducted through the evening, but she was not located by morning. As a precaution deputies came to Western High School to assist with the school district's own safety procedures.

At about 10 o'clock Friday morning the teenager was found in the 800 block of Blair Park Drive in the City of Jackson. She was in possession of the stolen handgun. She has been placed in custody pending charges related to the weapons violation, as well as violation of probation.
