MSU Junior Joe Fox was in his Snyder Hall dorm room when he heard.

"I got a text from someone that a building was on fire, so I decided to come down here and see what was going on," said Fox.

As it turns out the building was Morrill Hall. Police and fire departments got the call at 7:05 p.m.

"At that time, we had the police department respond," said Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor of Michigan State University Police. "We had the East Lansing Fire Department responding, Meridian Township and Lansing."

According to McGlothian-Taylor, the fire started on the roof, before spreading through several other parts of the building.

Morrill Hall had been set for demolition, which according to the university, began this month and was supposed to last until August, but the only work consistent of small projects, like window removal and removing bricks.

Police can't confirm if any part of the demolition caused the fire, but did say no one was inside when the fire started. They also reported no injuries.

Sgt. Taylor says the cause of the fire is still being investigated. MSU Police confirmed the fire was extinguished about an hour and a half after the initial call. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
