FLAT ROCK -- Mourners have paid their final respects to a Michigan girl who endured taunts after the high school freshman accused a senior of rape.
Samantha Kelly's funeral was Sunday afternoon at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home in Flat Rock. The 14-year-old from Wayne County's Huron Township killed herself last Monday.
Prosecutors on Wednesday dropped criminal charges against 18-year-old Joseph Tarnopolski, saying they had no case without the accuser's testimony.
Samantha's accusations became known to many of her neighbors and classmates after she and her mother spoke to a local television station about the matter.
The Detroit News reports about 250 people attended the funeral. She was laid to rest at Michigan Memorial Park, next to the school she attended.

I don't think the TV stations had anything to do with the bullying. The friends of the boy started harrasing the girl, and others jumped in as the School and parents did NOTHING! Let's put the blame where it belongs, on the rapist and his group of friends, the School system that ignored everything going on. The parents of the kids doing the bullying. Who had to of overheard what their kids were saying. Do not blame the TV station who reported it or the poor girl who couldn't live with the garbage being heaped on her.

The tv station should be ashamed and take partial blame for this. I'm sure they were jumping on the "bullying" topic bandwagon, but this issue should have been left to the legal system first.

i was raped by a seneior when I was a sophmore in HS. My parents didnt want a scandal so no charges. He told everyone in school I was easy. It made my life a living hell, no friends, called every name in the book, and finally I tried to kill myself. I was lucky I lived, got help, so my heart goes out to the girls family, and hope that the boy will someday get what he deserves.

How absolutely tragic. This issue is not going away any time soon. It has become epidemic. Our society is feeding on itself. That this monster will not face any charges sickens me.
