Late Friday, Ingham county's prosecutor cleared Lansing police officer Billy Windom in a fatal shooting.
Officer Windom has been dispatched to a South Holmes house on September 13 to investigate a domestic assault incident. As officer Windom walked up to the house, John Richard Ferguson came out and raised a rife at the officer. After ignoring repeated demands to drop the gun, Windom shot and killed Ferguson.
Toxicology tests have show that Ferguson was intoxicated at the time.
Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III concluded the shooting was in self-defense and no crime occurred.
