"We've broken up what I believe to be one of the bigger stolen property operations active in this county," Jackson County Sheriff Dan Heyns said Friday.
Hundreds of guns, several pounds of marijuana, multiple bags of stolen prescription drugs... that's just the tip of the ice burg of stolen property police came across when the searched the Leoni Township home of 51-year-old Ricky Wheeldon Wednesday and Thursday.
"We've seized over 250 items, and we're still counting," Heyns said.
Police went to the home looking for stolen items out of Ingham County, but they found much more than they bargained for. A second home belonging to Wheeldon in Henrietta Township was searched which uncovered even more.
"This case is kind of like a book to the extent that this is just the first chapter," Jackson County Prosecutor Henry Zavislak said. "We are nowhere near a conclusion."
Wheeldon has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, and resisting arrest. The Jackson County Prosecutor said more charges could be coming, in Jackson and in Ingham County.
"I believe an operation of this scope and magnitude is clearly not a one-man show," Zavislak said.
Police are still cataloging all the material and looking for clues as to if anyone else may have been involved.
"This thing is huge, we don't know how many there are, we're still going through property to see where this leads," Captain Rick Miller of the Ingham County Sheriff's Office said.
Wheeldon is being held at the Jackson County Jail on $1 million bond for each charge.
Police know Wheeldon, he has a criminal record dating back to the 1980's. He was convicted in 1986 of assault with attempt to murder,, and sent to prison. He was released in 2003.
