CMU Student Safe - Suspect Dead After Abduction and Assault

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) -- Police say a woman is safe after reportedly being abducted at gunpoint by a man in a parking lot at Central Michigan University and then driven away in her SUV.
Campus police say the abduction is believed to have happened about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday outside the Student Activity Center in Mount Pleasant and was reported about an hour later. Police say they were about 4 miles south of campus when she escaped.
Police say the woman sought help at a home. Police announced Thursday morning that they'd found the vehicle and the suspect was no longer at large.
WSGW-AM reports additional details weren't immediately released. Police at the mid-Michigan school say they're continuing to investigate.

Authorities say a man suspected of abducting and raping a Central Michigan University student has been fatally shot after a chase by police miles away.
Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski says the woman was abducted from campus in her own vehicle Wednesday night and raped at a home a few miles away.
The sheriff says the suspect, a 30-year-old Mount Pleasant man, later was fatally shot by a Crawford County officer. The woman escaped by jumping out of a moving vehicle and seeking help at a home.
Central Michigan University is in Mount Pleasant, about 70 miles north of Lansing.

Authorities say a man abducted and raped a Central Michigan University student, set a house on fire and was fatally shot miles away by a sheriff's deputy.
The man was identified as 30-year-old Eric Ramsey of Mount Pleasant.
Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski says the woman was abducted from campus in her own vehicle Wednesday night and taken to a home where she was bound and raped.
He says Ramsey put her back in the car and began driving. The sheriff says the woman jumped from the car and ran to a home for help. While she talked to 911, the suspect poured gasoline and set the house on fire.
The sheriff says Ramsey was killed more than 70 miles away in Crawford County after stealing a sanitation truck.
