On June 11, Leoni Township police officers responded to Page Avenue near Long Avenue, for a car/pedestrian accident. Witnesses said that an older male was walking in the roadway near the center of the road, then darted from the center of the roadway towards a Chevy Blazer traveling westbound in the right lane. The driver of the Blazer attempted to swerve away from the man, but was unable to avoid hitting him.
The driver of the vehicle, a 52-year old male from Hanover Township was not injured in the accident, but the pedestrian was seriously injured, and flown by Survival Flight to the University of Michigan Hospital.
Now Blackman-Leoni Public Safety is looking for assistance from the public. The injured pedestrian is Cyril David Shepard, age 65, from Michigan Center. He remains in critical condition at the University of Michigan Hospital. They have been unable to locate or contact any family members of Mr. Shepard.
