Michigan State Police are hoping to generate new leads about what happened to Diane Elizabeth Osinksi, a 19-year-old MSU student who went missing more than four decades ago.

Her roommate reported her missing to East Lansing Police on July 31, 1972. Osinski was last seen departing her off-campus residence located in the 700 block of Grove Street in East Lansing on July 24, 1972.

Her remains were found by mushroom hunters in a densely wooded area of the Rose Lake Conservation Area in Bath Township in Clinton County on May 9th, 1973.

This week marks the 40th year of the homicide investigation and detectives remain hopeful that exposure of the case may generate some additional investigative tips.

For several years after the crime, MSP detectives interviewed and investigated several possible leads; however, no one was ever charged in the case. MSP detectives continue to explore possible forensic developments and investigate potential leads in this cold case.

"I am hopeful there is someone out there who will come forward with that one crucial piece of evidence that we need to move forward, and finally give Diane's surviving family members the closure they deserve. Forty years is an extremely long time to have to live with the unknown," said D/Sgt. Kyle McPhee, the lead MSP detective for the case.

Anyone with information regarding this 1973 unsolved homicide is asked to contact D/Sgt. Kyle McPhee of the Michigan State Police, Lansing Post at 517-322-1909.
