A playground structure has been destroyed by an afternoon fire in Jackson.
Police say two 9-year-old boys were playing with matches at Partnership Park at about 3 p.m.
One of the boys apparently dropped a match, which caught the shredded rubber under the equipment on fire.
The fire then spread to the plastic structure.
Jackson firefighters say the structure is a total loss, with damage estimated at $10,000.
No one was hurt.

When I heard this story I was in shock that 2 9yr old boys were playing with matches! This is a good example of why parents need to talk to their kids about fire danger! Please parents talk to your kids, they don't know what harm they can do to themselves or to someone else!! It is a scary reminder what can happen when innocent kids get ahold of matches!! I hope that some good will come out of this!! Thank goodness noone was hurt!! I feel bad for the kids because they will have to live with what they did for the rest of their lives!! Also feel bad for all of the other kids that cant play on the equipment anymore!!

WILX should follow up and see if the shredded rubber used was at all treated to be flame resistant. Chances are this rubber was shredded tires, and everyone knows how terrible tire fires are.

bad parenting or the lack of parenting skills all the way around. Jackson needs some mentors and more parental involvements. The city council should make it a bigger initiative than renaming a street after MLK, giving extra rights to Gays or hiring their four city manager this decade.

it was no accident those kids always start trouble. the mom lets them kids always run the street and i seen one of them smoking before . now my kids don't have a playground to play at they should charge them or the mom on something. to the mom take care of your kids or watch them and know were they are at.

Yeah, so where was the parents at? It sounds to me like the parents of these two did not do a very good job of teaching there boys about things like this. So I think the parents should have to pay to replace everything. Parents just don't care anymore they just want there kids to leave them alone and this is the kinds of things that happen.
