Four mid-Michigan organizations are getting $1,000 each to make their community projects a reality.

The winners of the Pitch-A-Project community grant program were announced at Tuesday night's Lansing Lugnuts game. Each organization received a $1,000 grant courtesy of Fifth Third Bank.

Junior Achievement of Mid-Michigan won the Economic Development category. Last year, more than 8,300 local kids benefited from a JA program and the goal is to reach 9,000 kids during the 2013-2014 school year. JA teaches kids to develop financial and entrepreneur skills.

The Greater Lansing Food Bank won the Community Service category. Its goal is to feed the hungry in mid-Michigan throughout the year.

The City Rescue Mission of Lansing won the Wellness category. It is the largest shelter in the area for women, children and men. The grant money will go toward its Milk Money project, which allows them to purchase milk and other non-perishable food items for meals at the shelter.

Paws with a Cause won the Education category. It will use the grant money to create a short educational video about its Service Dogs for Children with Autism (SDA) program. The video will be show in schools, services clubs and other places to help reach more families.
