OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities say a person walking on tracks in Kalamazoo County was struck and killed by an Amtrak passenger train.
The Kalamazoo Gazette reports the unidentified pedestrian was hit Wednesday afternoon in Oshtemo Township. Undersheriff Paul Matyas says the conductor of the Chicago-bound train with nine cars saw the person and sounded the horn but there was "no reaction."
Matyas says the conductor pulled the emergency brake but the train didn't stop in time.
Police haven't been able to determine the person's gender or age and expect identification will be difficult.
The train was stopped for about two hours while authorities investigated.
