Defense cuts being announced in Washington include scrapping plans for an amphibious Marine vehicle that was slated to be built in Ohio.

The move puts at risk about 200 jobs at the General Dynamics Land Systems plant in Lima.

The vehicle was to be a key component at the plant operated by the Sterling Heights, Mich.-based General Dynamics Land Systems.

A company spokesman tells The Lima News that there will be an immediate impact at the plant where workers also refurbish tanks and build other military equipment.

The multimillion dollar amphibious transport has been in the planning stages since 1996 but production had not yet started.

Ohio lawmakers this week sent a letter to President Barack Obama urging him to stop the Pentagon from canceling a $14 billion Marine vehicle.
