One Driver Killed in I-94 Crash. Another Critical in Prior Crash.

SANDSTONE TWP, JACKSON CO. - A truck driver was killed in an accident along I-94 in Jackson County Monday evening. The name of the deceased driver has not yet been released. Michigan State Police tell News 10 that the crash took place in the westbound lanes of the highway near Dearing Road. Three semi-trucks were involved and one became engulfed in flames. The cause of the crash is still under investigation although the driver of the first semi was pronounced dead at the scene. Westbound I-94 was closed for several hours during the investigation.

This accident happened about an hour after there was an accident in the eastbound lanes of I-94 in the same area, which critically injured a man. At about 4:50PM a semi-truck driver lost control of the truck, left the roadway and struck some trees. The 60-year-old Canadian man was airlifted to a hospital in Kalamazoo. Deputies say the driver stated he was trying to avoid something in the roadway when he lost control.
