Update: Fire Out at West Bay Exploration Facility in Jackson County

Blackman-Leoni firefighters have put out a fire at property owned by West Bay Exploration on Dorrell Road in Leoni Township. Jeff Schunk, field operations manager for West Bay, told News 10's Lauren Evans a truck hit a natural gas line, causing an explosion and fire a little after 6pm Wednesday. The driver of the truck was airlifted to University of Michigan hospital to be treated for third-degree burns. Police have not released his name. Firefighters tell wilx.com the public was never in any danger. The area of the facility where the explosion happened has been shut down, the rest of it is still running. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be investigating the explosion.
