Officials Review Michigan Law After Jones' Death

The death of state Rep. Robert Jones leaves Michigan Democrats attempting to find a new candidate for the state Senate's 20th district, which represents Kalamazoo County and part of Van Buren County.

Election officials and Democrats are reviewing state law Monday to
determine the implications of Jones' death and how his name might be replaced on the on the Nov. 2 ballot.

Jones died Sunday at age 66. He had been battling cancer.

Republican Tonya Schuitmaker is on the ballot. The Senate seat is now held by Republican Tom George of Kalamazoo County's Texas Township. George can't run again because of the state's term limits law.
