Obama, Romney Fight for Union Votes

On Labor Day, union members joined together as Vice President Joe Biden visited Detroit. Mid-Michigan union leader Stan Schuck says support for the Obama-Biden ticket doesn't end there.

"It is clear that labor is under attack and we need people that do have our back," said Vice Chair Stan Schuck of UAW 2256.

He says between now and November, union members will be out campaigning and encouraging people to go out and vote for the man they say will preserve the middle class.

"Hopefully being a big labor state, our union brothers and sisters will go out there this November and vote and support the Democratic process," Schuck said.

However, Michigan Republicans are putting up a strong fight and vowed to remove the Obama administration from office.

"They're on their way out. Come November 6th, they're checking out of the White House, end of story," said Bobby Schostak, chairman of the Michigan Republican Party.

Schostak says the president has failed America and that's why he believes even unions should vote for Mitt Romney.

"They want jobs, they want growth. They want to secure their families. They want to see a stronger America. That hasn't happened," Schostak said.

Schuck couldn't agree less and said he thinks the only way people will see a stronger America is to send President Obama back to the White House.

Republicans want more than just minimum wages for factory workers; does the word slavery mean anything to you?

Why anyone that is a union member vote Republican is beyond me. Just look around the country and see how they feel about unions. Yeah, as a member of a union I would never be better off voting for Romney. Republicans would rather unions go away alone with minimum wages laws.

That's a matter of opinion. I am a lifelong conservative Republican and a union worker. The only thing the union has ever done for me is siphon money from my paycheck that has been used protect the rights of workers that should have been fired long ago for laziness and incompetence.
