Students have a chance to put their history teacher in the history books.
The Michigan Historical Center in Lansing is accepting nominations for the 2013 Odyssey Award for teaching excellence in Michigan history. The deadline for nominating an outstanding history teacher is December 1, 2013.
Two teachers will be chosen, based on their knowledge of Michigan history, what they've done to inspire their students and their creative teaching methods.
Mary Foulke, one of last year's recipients, explained the value of the award, "I am extremely honored and humbled to have received the 2012 Michigan History Foundation Odyssey Award. It is overwhelming to receive such an award from doing what my life's passion is all about, history. We have such a deep and rich history in this state and I have tried to impart to my students that same appreciation and love."
Representatives from the Michigan Historical Center will present award plaques along with a cash gift of $1,000 and one annual Michigan Historical Museum family membership to recipients during ceremonies at their schools.
