FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Police say they've arrested a mother who made up a story about her daughter's kidnapping after she was caught stealing a TV set from a Flint-area Target store.
WNEM-TV says the 26-year-old woman was arrested on accusations that she falsely reported a child abduction, committed identity theft and retail fraud, and gave false identification to police.
The woman was held Sunday evening by workers at the store in Genesee County's Flint Township, about 55 miles northwest of Detroit.
Police say she told officers a man had abducted her 4-year-old daughter and ordered her to steal a TV to get the girl back.
An Amber Alert was issued for the girl, but police say they withdrew it after learning the woman was lying.
