ELBERTA, Mich. (AP) -- A 45-year-old Northern Michigan woman faces charges in what police believe was a failed attempt at killing herself and her 14-year-old daughter.
The Benzie County prosecutor's office says Kelli Stapleton of Elberta has been named in an attempted murder warrant. She was released from a hospital Thursday and was being transported to the Benzie County Jail.
Her daughter was unconscious in a Grand Rapids hospital after suffering carbon monoxide poisoning.
State police Lt. Kip Belcher said the woman's husband reported them missing Tuesday afternoon.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that authorities found the family's van Tuesday evening in Blaine Township, west of Traverse City. The windows were closed and charcoal had been burned inside. Both the mother and daughter were unconscious.
Belcher said the case remains under investigation.
