CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- The Pentagon says a 21-year-old soldier from suburban Detroit has been killed in an insurgent attack in Iraq.
The Defense Department says Army Pfc. Robert Friese of Macomb County's Chesterfield Township died Friday from injuries he sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with a rocket-propelled grenade.
The attack happened in Al Qadisiyah province.
Friese was part of the 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, based at Fort Hood, Texas.
The base said Sunday it didn't immediately have more information about Friese.
