Michigan Soldier Dies from Wounds Suffered in Afghanistan

COTRELLVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- The Defense Department says a soldier from eastern Michigan has died from wounds suffered in an attack in Afghanistan.

The military identified the soldier as 23-year-old Pfc. Shane M. Reifert of St. Clair County's Cottrellville Township. The Defense Department says he died Saturday in Kunar province of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) out of Fort Campbell, Ky.
