Michigan Sues Duty-Free Company Over Gas Sales

DETROIT (AP) -- The state says a duty-free company at the Ambassador Bridge failed to comply with gasoline sales regulations.
The Detroit Free Press reports that Department of Agriculture & Rural Development last week sued Ammex, saying Ambassador Bridge owner Matty Moroun's company mislabeled gasoline as having higher octane than it really did and allowed too much fuel vapor to escape.
Ammex says it's now "in full compliance with the law" and will remain so in the future.
The lawsuit precedes a Nov. 6 vote on a Moroun-backed ballot proposal that would require Michigan voters to approve building any new border crossing to Canada. Proposal 6 seeks to derail a proposed Canadian-financed span from Detroit to Windsor, Ontario, backed by Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder.
Michigan says the lawsuit is unrelated to Snyder.
