Medical Marijuana Bills Move Past House

LANSING-- The Michigan House has passed a package of bills aimed at clarifying the state's voter-approved law allowing the use of marijuana for medical purposes.
The House passed four bills Thursday, which now go to the Senate.
One bill seeks to better define the type of doctor-patient relationship needed before medical marijuana use could be certified. Another includes requirements for photographs to be included on identification cards that people certified to use medical marijuana must carry.
The legislation also calls for creating a 15-member panel of physicians and others to review petitions requesting to add medical conditions to the list for which the use of marijuana is approved.
Backers say the 2008 law wasn't clear and contained loopholes. Critics say the proposed changes might make the drug harder to get.

I have seen so many "potheads" claim an issue just to get a card and then pass the pot on to friends. This is a free for all. Those who really need it for terminal and critical illnesses are not boasting to their friends about how they got pot. I am sure pot has its benefits somewhere but way to many people have cards and way to many shouldn't.

Courtney, you are so right! I'm sorry to say that I know a Lot of Pot smokers through my ex., Many of them got their cards without any real illness, just go to a "clinic" pay your $200. to $350. and you get your slip. And now they are bragging about all the money they are making. It makes me Sick! I have to laugh at one thing though, some of the Heavy smokers are to paranoid to do it. Paranoia is one of the results of heavy smoking.:-)

I Love It! Thank God, Michigan passed a Medical Marijuana law Not a free for all!! The "clinics" that have sprouted up everywhere just give them your money and you get your slip so you can get your card! Never having seen this "doctor" before in your Life, and most likely will never see again. That's just crazy. This was Supposed to be for Terminally and Critically Ill patients! But if you have a backache you can get your card? Whatever. You can set there and scream and yell all you want But Most of the "approved" uses are just ridiculous, the Research Is Not There. Personally I would Like to see it as a covered Prescription from a Pharmacy, Not and I repeat Not something you Grow at Home so who knows Where it is going! Do you agree that it should be a Covered Prescription? That way those that Really Need it can get it. I'm betting you wouldn't agree.

I agree, you should have regular check ups to see if you still have need and not a card and then it is yours for life. They do not prescribe pain medication in that manner anywhere. All narcotics require a revisit and many cannot have refills, so why should pot be any different.

All this does is further prove, we can vote anything in. Our "leaders" (I use that term loosely) will make sure if it's not in THEIR best interest, can and will fix any law or bill until it's as useless as they are.

The people of the state voted, somehow Lansing is not following the will of the people. Lansing want to tell the people of Michigan, we do not care about your vote!

that is because under federal law which trumps state law it is still illegal. until the feds get on board you can still be charged and convicted
