Mayor Virg Bernero cruised to an easy re-election victory over former city councilman Harold Leeman Tuesday night.

Bernero took 71 percent of the vote over Leeman.

"We are on our way, we are on our way and the people of Lansing have said keep right on going, the people of Lansing have said remove the obstacles," Bernero said during his victory speech.

The first upset of the night coming on Lansing City Council with two at-large seats up for grabs but only one incumbent sticking around.

Kathie Dunbar finished behind Judi Brown Clarke while Brian Jeffries--who won the primary--finished third with 23 percent of the vote and is out after 11 years on the council.

"There will be a civility on the council," Dunbar said. "Differences of opinion will be dealt with as legislators and executives should, there will be a more civil dialogue between members and the mayor."

In the 4th Ward incumbent Jessica Yorko beat out Chong-Anna Canfora in a what was at times a very heated race.

"I feel like we have a really great balance in the 4th Ward because we have the relationships where I can take all this grassroots energy and help build it and harness it and offer different policy solutions," Yorko said. "I'm just honored to do it for another four years."

Meanwhile, Tina Houghton held onto her 2nd Ward seat against Charles Hoffmeyer.
