BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (AP) -- A 63-year-old Battle Creek man who authorities say kept a 14-year-old runaway in his home and slept naked with her has been convicted in the case.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that a Calhoun County Circuit Court jury on Wednesday found Sam Sanders guilty of one count each of third- and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of harboring a runaway. He faces up to 15 years in prison when sentenced April 28.
Defense attorney Ward McDonough argued in court that his client should have used better sense. He also said the girl's story changed over time.
Authorities say the girl called Sanders in February 2010 and ran away from home, and stayed with him while police searched for her. She was found a day after leaving home.
