EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan State University plans to give an honorary degree to the president of its in-state rival.
University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman is one of Michigan State University's speakers for December commencement ceremonies.
Coleman is to speak at the advanced-degree ceremony Friday afternoon. The East Lansing school says she'll receive an honorary doctorate of laws degree.
At its December commencement, which takes place Sunday, the University of Michigan plans to give an honorary degree to Michigan State President Lou Anna Simon. She's to get the honorary doctorate of laws degree during the event in Ann Arbor.
Saturday speakers at Michigan State University events are Chrysler Group LLC's CEO Sergio Marchionne, who also leads Fiat, and Steelcase Inc. CEO James Hackett.
