LANSING - A car crashes into a Lansing church overnight. The driver, a 24-year-old man, is hospitalized, after losing control of his SUV and smashing through a wall of the Union Missionary Baptist Church in the 500 block of south Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in Lansing at about 3:30 in the morning Thursday. The car went completely into the church sanctuary, crushing pews as well.

Southbound MLK Blvd was closed between Kalamazoo Street and St. Joseph Street for several hours. The car itself was removed from the building at about 9:30AM.

At last word the driver was in serious condition. Investigators are still trying to figure out the cause of the accident. The safety of the structure is also being evaluated.
