MIS Hosts Test Drives for Charity

A dozen brand-new Ford cars and trucks were available for free test drives at Michigan International Speedway Saturday, part of the Drive 4 UR Community Program -- a collaboration between Brooklyn Ford and the MIS Cares charity.

"We're not here to sell cars," said Cole Guthrie, general manager at Brooklyn Ford. "We're truly just here to make sure everybody has a fun time, that they truly enjoy their experience and that they can leave here knowing the Ford brand, knowing the Ford lineup and feeling they had a really fun day."

After signing a wavier, anyone over age 18 could drive a 2013 or 2014 model Ford, from a Focus to an F-350.

The hottest car on the track though was the Ford Mustang GT, with some people waiting in line to take it for a spin.

"My first instinct as a responsible dad was to take a look at a family vehicle," said Paul Eros of Grass Lake. "So we drove a couple of them around and then once I got that out of the way, I hopped in the Mustang. It felt amazing. It was like nothing I've ever driven before. It was a true American muscle car."

Some came looking for a specific vehicle; others just came for a good time.

"I came to just have fun," said Seth Weidemann, who lives in Jackson. "I like the fact that there's no limit on how many you can drive or how many times you can drive it."

Many people also said they enjoyed being able to look without the pressure of salespeople in a showroom.

"It's no pressure," said MIS Fan Services Manager Jayme Bicknell. "The [employees are] just here to answer questions, they're not doing a strong sales pitch."

Brooklyn Ford pledged up to $6,000 for MIS Cares, depending on how many people showed up. Next year's event is already being planned.
