Locals Stuck On Disabled Cruise Ship

At least 10 local residents are waiting to set sail for Vancouver after spending four days in Seward, Alaska aboard the cruise ship Celebrity Millenium-- which had an electrical failure.

I talked to one of the women in the group from Dimondale Monday night who says conditions aren't all that bad other than a brief time when the toilets weren't working. However, the ship now has to make up time and get to Vancouver and skip the rest of the Alaskan ports.

"We were told we'd get a full refund on our fare but we still have to pay for our pop and water," said Rose Hambleton of Dimondale. "We can't shop in the duty free or use the casino because we're in port.

"It's just very dissappointing not being able to see the Inside Passage."

About 77 of the 2,138 passengers left the cruise to get home on their own. Most of the couples in Hambleton's group are from the St. Johns area.
