An unknown man was hit and killed by a Livingston County ambulance just east of Howell early Monday morning.
Michigan State Police Detective First Lt. Sean Furlong says it happened in Genoa Township, on Grand River Avenue, near Golf Club, at 2 a.m. The ambulance was not running with emergency lights or sirens, It was a routine patient transfer to a hospital.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators don't know who he is or why he was walking along the road at that time.
Because a county vehicle was involved, the investigation has been handed over to the Michigan State Police.
No one has been ticketed and the investigation is continuing.
