At 2 p.m. Tuesday, Teresa Szymanski hopes to have the interim removed from her title and remain Lansing's Chief of Police. Szymanski, the first female to hold the post, was selected as interim Chief last year when Mark Alley left for the private sector.

The other finalists are Captains Ray Hall and Mike Yankowski-- also longtime members of LPD.

Mayor Virg Bernero will announce his recommendation Tuesday and the Board of Police Commissioners will convene at 5:30 to consider the mayor's decision.

Congratulations to our first female Chief of Police. The mayor sure knows how to play the politics game.
