Amy has been engaged for a little more than a month.
"We were sitting there watching TV," said Amy, who didn't want us to use her full name. "It turned 12:01 AM and he proposed just like that on Christmas morning.
But her fiancee Steve left on a long overseas business trip with Siemens Energy just a week later. As part of that trip he ended up in Egypt. Earlier in the week they spoke over email. She received a brief voice message this morning. But since then, nothing.
"As long as i can talk to him it's OK," said Amy. But when i don't hear anything is when i really start getting scared.
She isn't hearing anything because communications in Egypt are being blocked... no cell phones and no internet. Now that plane travel in and out of the country is grinding to a halt, she's not sure when she'll see Steve again.
"It's just been hell," said Amy. "Not knowing if he's going to be OK or how long he's going to be there."
So now Amy is glued to the couch. She wants to watch TV but she also wants to look away at the same time.
"I try to watch news but I try not to watch the news because it tends to get me more rattled," said Amy.
And watching tends to amplify her worst fears for Steve.
"I'm just worried that it's going to escalate," said Amy.
For now she's stuck here, watching and waiting for some sort of assurance that her husband-to-be is safe, sound and on the way home.
The company Steve works for, Siemens Energy, did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
