Due to heavy rain around mid-Michigan, some Lansing neighborhoods and roads have been affected by flooding, some received over 3 inches of rain in a very short period of time.
Drivers are urged to avoid driving through water that is over the road. As the National Weather Service reminds us: "Turn around, don't drown". Moving water can sweep most people off their feet in as little as 6 inches and most vehicles will float at only 12 inches of water.
Drivers should avoid the following areas, as many roads are closed due to high water:
Miller Road between Pleasant Grove and Wise Roads
Pleasant Grove from Jolly to Miller Roads
Edgewood east of M L King to Georgetown
Neighborhood flooding has been noted in the following areas, making travel difficult and has led to some local street closures:
Picardy between Pollard and Webster
Radford between Pleasant Grove and Pheasant
4245 W Jolly Road (specifically Creighton and Yale)
If you are experiencing basement flooding/backup, in the City of Lansing, please report it to:
City of Lansing Public Service Department
News 10's Alyssa Fenske will have more on the flooding around Lansing on News 10 at 5 & 6pm.
