Lansing Man Faces Multiple Attempted Armed Robbery Charges

A Lansing man was arraigned Monday in Lansing District Court on two counts of assault with intent to rob and one count felony firearm, after holding three people at gunpoint Sunday night.

Delvonta Mitchell, 20, was arrested Sunday evening in the 700-block of Princeton after police responded to a call of attempted armed robbery.

According to Lansing police, two males and one female stated that while exiting a local convenience store in the 900-block of W. Saginaw Street around 6:40 p.m., they were approached by a male demanding money who further pointed a handgun.

They said Mitchell had entered victims’ vehicle and removed a handgun from a back pack. The male victims’ then wrestled with the accused and one victim was struck in the head with the handgun. However, the victims were able to get the accused out of the vehicle, and he fled the scene on foot.

Officers arrived on scene quickly and were directed to a vehicle believed to me Mitchell's. The accused vehicle stopped at Princeton and MLK, and three male occupants were then seen fleeing on foot.

A police perimeter was set up and a K-9 tracked the accused within the perimeter. Mitchell was placed under arrest without further incident.

The two other male saccused were not contacted.

One of the male victims, a 51-year-old Lansing resident, was treated and released at a local hospital for a minor laceration to his head and abrasions.

Magistrate James Pahl set a $35,000 cash surety bond. A preliminary hearing for Mitchell is set for Sept. 10 at 1:45 p.m.

If convicted, Mitchell could face up to life in prison.
