Lansing Car Show Provides Variety

Cars streamed into Adado Riverfront Park Sunday morning, each looking different than the last. It's part of the reason several experienced car show participants say the Outta Control Show in Lansing is their favorite.

"This show is very very different from other car shows in that it's a great blend of low riders, and other classic-type trucks," said John Caudell of Grand Ledge, who visits around 15 car shows every year. "This is really really different. Probably my favorite show of the year."

The variety helps the Flint/Saginaw-based Outta Control Car Club draw a larger, more diverse crowd.

"We just wanna have a good time and show people in our area cars from other areas as well as show them some cars from our area they may not have seen," said Club Founder Kenneth Baker. "It's just something to give back to the community. We can get out and have something to do, come out and just enjoy the cars and see how people express themselves through their vehicles."

The expression in many cases came through intricate detailing on cars.

"People like showing off their hard work," Caudell said. "These things don't stay clean on their own, you've gotta put in a lot of hours cleaning them, a lot of hours pampering them, a lot of hours on eBay finding and replacing parts."

Some owners had put more than a decade of work into their vehicles and spent thousands of dollars. They say it's a never-ending work in progress.

"It took me 14 or 15 years to do it up like this," said JR Guillen of Lansing, "and I still got more work ahead.

"It ain't never done."
