The Lansing Board of Police Commissioners announces the three finalists for the police chief job. They are Interim Police Chief Teresa Szymanski, Captain Ray Hall and Captain Michael Yankowski.

Interim Chief Szymanski, a 23-year veteran of the Lansing Police Department, was appointed Interim Chief of the department by Mayor Bernero in March. Captain Hall, also a 23-year veteran of the department, is the current commander of the LPD Investigations Division. Captain Yankowski is the current commander of the LPD Patrol Division and a 16-year veteran of the department.

Mayor Bernero will now interview the three finalists and choose one candidate to nominate as Lansing's permanent Chief of Police. His nominee will then be submitted to the Board of Police Commissioners for their confirmation. Mayor Bernero has said he hopes to conclude his interviews and make a decision before the end of the year.

It is nice that all three candidates came from within. It shows how good LPD is in developing officers.
