CHARLOTTE - A jury in Eaton County is now deliberating in the sexual misconduct trial of a former Okemos high school teacher. Closing arguments in the trial of William Bryan Polston concluded Thursday morning. The trial began with jury selection on Monday, but testimony did not begin until Tuesday. Polston did not take the stand in his own defense.
Polston is accused of 6 counts of criminal sexual conduct. His accuser says Polston, a teacher at Okemos high school, had a sexual relationship with her starting when she was a 14-year old student at the school. The relationship took place from 2003-2004. Polston is accused of having sex with the minor at his home in Delta Township.
Charges were not brought until last year, after the accuser discussed the relationship with another Okemos teacher, who then informed the school district and legal authorities. In 2009 the accuser agreed to a $70,000 settlement with Polston. She testified that she believed the statue of limitations had run out.
Polston faces similar charges involving the same woman in Ingham County.
