A 31-year-old Jackson man is facing charges after police say he tried to steal an ATM from the American 1 Credit Union Monday morning.

Jackson Police say officers were dispatched to the branch at 718 East Michigan Avenue for an ATM alarm just before 7:45am. When officers arrived on scene, a white Pontiac Sunfire was backed up to the front entrance of the credit union. The suspect had damaged two ATMs inside the foyer, before hooking a strap to one of them and trying to drag it out with his car.

The suspect is behind bars at the Jackson County Jail. He is expected to be charged with Larceny of an ATM and Malicious Destruction of Property.
